Spring Term One 2022
This term we will be exploring the Rainforest. We will try to recognise geographical issues affecting people in different places and environments and ask and respond to questions that are more causal e.g. Why is that happening in that place? Could it happen here? We will also be investigating the problems facing the rainforest and how we can help to save them. In literacy lessons we will be enjoying activities based around our class novel The Explorer by Katherine Rundell which is set in the Amazon Rainforest. We will also be making Rainforest animals in DT lessons using mechanical systems such as cams, pulleys and gears. Our Science lessons continue to explore animal and plant life cycles and researching the work and impact of famous naturalists such as David Attenborough and Jane Goodall.
Autumn Term Two 2021
During this half term our history topic will be the Early Islamic Civilisation 750-1258AD. We will be specifically looking at Baghdad and comparing it to London in 900AD. Baghdad at the time was the largest city in the world, with a population of about 1 million. It was a perfectly round city, with all the important buildings in the centre. Situated between two rivers, it was also at the centre of the world's great trade routes and the caliph was therefore extremely wealthy. This was key to the success of the Golden Age of Islam.
Can you find out who any of the Caliphs were during this time?
What was the House of Wisdom?
In Science we will be learning about life cycle changes in animals and plants and the work of naturalists such as David Attenborough.
Our ICT work will be learning about digital audio.
In PE, we will be using our creative and cooperative skills in Gymnastics. Can you find out what counter balance and counter tension are?
The children will be creating pieces of art work linked to digital photography and art.
In English lessons we will be completing work on 3 topics: poems with imagery, Macbeth and A Christmas Carol.
We always enjoy sharing any information or relevant items connected to the class topics, if your child wishes to bring anything into school they would be more than welcome.
AUTUMN ONE 2021
This half term our topic is ‘Ancient Greece’.
During this half term we will be learning about what life was like in Ancient Greece. We will be exploring Greek myths and learning how the Ancient Greeks governed their cities as well as looking at how Ancient Greece influenced the rest of the World. In Art lessons we will be learning about Ancient Greek art and architecture and designing and making our own vases in the style used by the Ancient Greeks. Our Science topic is forces. We will be learning about balanced and unbalanced forces as well as investigating air resistance, water resistance and friction. Our Literacy work this half term will be based on the novel The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The mythical creatures in this book will link well with our History topic.
We always enjoy sharing any information or items related to the Class topic, if your child wishes to bring them into school they are more than welcome.
What we are learning about in Rowan Class
As part of the Myths and Legends unit in Literacy, we created dragon eyes out of clay, then painted them.
As part of our topic of Ancient Greece, we designed pots using images from Ancient Greece, as well as
We learnt to sing a song called Ghost Parade. We used glockenspiels to accompany the song.
We believe that every child is special and has their own talents
At Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School, Christianity flows through everything we do but we also value other faiths.
All the children will be helped to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. They will be encouraged to always try to do their best and be proud of their work.
Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School is an important and valuable part of the Church family and the wider community.
