SPRING ONE

This half term our topic is ‘The Rainforest’

During this half term our geography topic will be The Rainforest. A rainforest is a tall, dense forest that receives lots of rain every year. Rainforests are full of biodiversity, meaning there are lots of different species of plants and animals that live there.

We will try to recognise geographical issues affecting people in different places and environments and ask and respond to questions that are more causal e.g. Why is that happening in that place? Could it happen here? We will also be investigating the problems facing the rainforest and how we can help to save them.

Where are the tropical rainforests located? What are the layers of the rainforest? What animals live in the rainforest?

In Science we will continue to explore animal and plant life cycles and researching the work and impact of famous naturalists such as David Attenborough and Jane Goodall.

Our ICT work will be learning about coding and using micro bits.

The children will be creating pieces of art work linked to the Rainforest. We will also be making Rainforest animals in DT lessons using mechanical systems such as cams, pulleys and gears.

In literacy lessons we will be enjoying activities based around our class novel The Explorer by Katherine Rundell which is set in the Amazon Rainforest.

We always enjoy sharing any information or relevant items on the class topic, if your child wishes to bring them into school they will be more than welcomed.

Our Mission

We believe that every child is special and has their own talents

At Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School, Christianity flows through everything we do but we also value other faiths.

All the children will be helped to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. They will be encouraged to always try to do their best and be proud of their work.

Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School is an important and valuable part of the Church family and the wider community.
