Welcome to the Early Years at Clitheroe St James’ CE Primary School!
In Acorn Class we will support your child to lay the important foundations for their future learning.
Providing an environment for children to play and learn together and where they will learn about respect, co-operation and sharing.
We value each child as an individual and the adults in Acorn Class will enjoy finding out about the needs and interests of your children and help them to build on their learning over time.
It is an important time to develop an enjoyment and motivation for learning in our children.
We hope to achieve all of this in a strong partnership with our parents.
The Areas of Learning and Development
There are seven areas of learning and development that underpin all we do in The Early Years.
• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Personal, social and emotional development
• Understanding the world
• Expressive arts and design
We base our learning around topics, the seasons, the children’s interests and our planning reflects what we have observed whilst working with your children and therefore is flexible. Our learning develops through the topics and is very much based on what children can do and what they need to learn next. This learning journey may not be the same for every child as children are unique and will develop at different rates.
Our children learn through play, by watching adults modelling, by observing each other and through guided learning and direct teaching both inside and outside.

We believe that every child is special and has their own talents
At Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School, Christianity flows through everything we do but we also value other faiths.
All the children will be helped to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour. They will be encouraged to always try to do their best and be proud of their work.
Clitheroe St. James' C.E. Primary School is an important and valuable part of the Church family and the wider community.
